Summary: Sarah A. Schoen, PhD, OTR/L is the associate director of research at the
SPD Foundation and an associate professor at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. For 10 years, she has been working with Lucy Jane Miller, PhD, OTR/L on the development of a comprehensive assessment of sensory function. This compelling presentation provides information about characteristics of the Sensory Processing Scale, the first examiner administered scale of sensory processing across all sensory domains. Presenter: Sarah A. Schoen, PhD, OTR/L, is Associate Director of Research at the Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation. Dr. Schoen is an Occupational Therapist with 28 years of clinical experience and a doctorate in Occupational Therapy from New York University (2001). She was the Director of Occupational Therapy at the Rose F. Kennedy Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine until 2002 when she applied and was accepted for the prestigious Developmental Psychobiology Research Group two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Department of Psychiatry. During her fellowship she was awarded the Developmental Psychology Endowment Grant from the William T. Grant Foundation to study the Sensory Processing Scales, which she is developing and researching under the mentorship of Dr. Lucy Jane Miller. Previously, Dr. Schoen taught in the graduate program of Occupational Therapy department at New York University and served as an advisor for advanced master degree students’ research.
Dr. Schoen is certified in Neurodevelopmental Treatment and has taught continuing education workshops nationally. She continues to teach the Advanced Mentorship trainings at the SPD Foundation and is Assistant Professor at the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. Dr. Schoen has advanced training in Sensory Integration Therapy and clinical expertise with infants/toddlers with Regulatory Disorder, children with Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. In 1997, Dr. Schoen received the Recognition of Achievement Award from the American Occupational Therapy Association.
